When you're looking for precision, you need timber that performs. That's why our SCANT and CLS timber is chosen by builders, joiners, and tradespeople across the North West.
Whether you’re putting up stud walls, creating internal frames, or working on home improvements, our CLS and SCANT timber gives you the accuracy and finish that keep projects professional from start to finish.
And because the edges are rounded, it’s safer to handle and reduces the chance of annoying splinters (something professionals and DIYers will appreciate).
What Is CLS Timber?
Originally developed for “Canadian Lumber Standard,” CLS timber is planed on all sides with eased edges, giving it a smooth surface that’s ideal for indoor work. Its accurate dimensions make it simple to handle, cut, and fit reducing your preparation time on site.
Our SCANT timber offers a similar lightweight, cost-effective solution for non-load-bearing frameworks, partitions, and general joinery. Both types are kiln-dried for strength and stability, minimising the risk of twisting or warping after installation.
If you need timber for external or heavier structural work, we also stock C16 Timber and C24 Timber for added strength and durability.

Scant & CLS Timber FAQs
What Is The Difference Between Scant and CLS Timber?
The main difference lies in size and finish. Scant timber is slightly smaller and often rougher, making it suitable for general framing and non-structural projects. CLS timber, on the other hand, is planed with smooth edges and is specifically designed for precision work like stud walls and interior framing. While both are versatile softwoods, CLS offers a cleaner, more consistent finish, whereas Scant timber provides a practical, cost-effective option for less visible applications.
