What Do You Put Under Paving Slabs?

Paving slabs should be laid on a mortar bed, underpinned by compacted sub base. Mark out the area and dig to a depth of around 150 to 200mm. Lay and compact the sub base and use a mortar mix that is damp and workable, laying the slabs in place and filling the gaps.

How Long Before You Can Walk on Newly Laid Paving Slabs?

You should avoid walking on newly laid paving slabs until the mortar used to fix them in place has completely dried. This takes around 24 to 48 hours. Putting weight on the slabs before the mortar is dry will cause them to move and can create an uneven surface.
