Wall plugs, sometimes known as rawl plugs, are specially designed plastic plugs that are inserted into wall surfaces such as stone or plasterboard in order to provide a secure means of attachment so that screws or other supports can be used to allow shelves, pictures, and other items to be fixed securely to the walls. They are also commonly used on brittle surfaces that would otherwise fail to support the item to be hung, attached or displayed and can serve to protect the wall surface from inadvertently being damaged.
There are many different types of wall plugs available and the one that you choose ultimately depends on the type of surface that you wish to fit to and the weight of the item that you wish to attach. There are different length and strength plugs for masonry, stonework and stud walls and it is essential that you use the correct plastic wall plug to achieve the right result.
