Putty

Putty is an extremely useful material that is commonly used for a range of purposes, including smoothing uneven surfaces and filling holes/cracks in timberwork or metal. There is also a special putty for windows that helps to seal panes safely within their frames.

Some of the most-popular putties include multi-purpose linseed oil putty, butyl putty (a specially designed putty for windows), and trowel mastic. Here at George Hill, we sell all of these.

Wood putty is one of the most commonly used wood filling compounds. The primary ingredients in most wood putties are linseed oil, calcium carbonate, and colourants. This putty feels like a soft clay and has a doughy texture. Wood putty takes quite a while to dry - indeed this is one of its main disadvantages. The advantages are that it is available in a variety of colours, is less prone to the effects of natural elements, is relatively inexpensive, and has some useful adhesive properties.

Metal putty can be used to fix metals that are broken or deteriorating. It can be used for various repairs to metal machinery, tools, pipes, or even car parts. It boosts resistance against moisture.

Trowel mastic is used for perimeter pointing around window and door frames (metal or wood) and is able to form a weather-tight seal.
