Home Improvement Projects

The government has recently published results on the most common Home Improvement projects we’re undertaking here in the UK. The data was compiled by TNS BMRB, an independent social research agency who collected the results from consumers and businesses all over the United Kingdom. The research showed that most of our home improvements will cost in the range of £2,000 – £5,000, with the likelihood of increasing the value of our property by larger amount.

This research has also shown us what the most popular home improvements are here in the United Kingdom. With our winters seeming to get darker and colder each year, it’s unsurprising that the installation of a new boiler or central heating system topped the list. Aside from the obvious benefits of a high quality boiler or central heating system, there are also financial upsides. Despite the initial cost of several thousand pounds, you could save plenty on ever-increasing energy bills with a new, efficient boiler. They will generally account for up to 60% of your energy usage, and reports have suggested that by replacing your boiler you could reduce costs by up to 40%.

The next most common home improvement was the installation of a new bathroom. Research has suggested that up to 47% of potential buyers would pay significantly more for a property if it contained an en suite bathroom, and so many of us are taking the plunge and getting the plumbers in. Although these home improvements are usually costly affairs, prices can be kept down somewhat by using products, such as adhesives or waterproof sealants, which can be found in our George Hill hardware shop. With our reduced prices you can save money on the project, an equally attractive prospect whether you’re a business owner or a consumer.

Following the installation of a new bathroom, one of the next most common home improvements here in the United Kingdom is the renovation of the kitchen. The hub of activity in most households, the kitchen isn’t just a place to prepare food, and it’s easy to underestimate the positive effect of an attractive kitchen – both on your mood, and the value of your house. Whether you’re choosing granite, marble or stainless steel surfaces, you’ll find a large variety of fixings, woods and stainers to build the perfect kitchen. Even if your kitchen renovation will require an extension, here at George Hill we’re proud to offer reduced prices on the plasterboard, concrete and bricks necessary for building work.Worksurfaces
